A DAY IN THE LIFE OF MY STUDENTS…
During LANGUAGE ARTS class, students will be given opportunities to study communication in its verbal and nonverbal forms.During READING class, students will be developing reading skills, comprehension, and the use of literary skills and devices.The goal is for every student to become an active listener, an organized speaker, a fluent and competent reader, an expressive writer, and a positive group participant.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS
Be on time and prepared for class.
Pay attention and ask questions when you do not understand what is being covered
Participate in small group and whole group activities
Complete all work (in class and assigned homework) thoroughly and promptly
Be safe, courteous and respectful of others in the classroom.
Maintain a respectful and helpful attitude when substitute teachers or other adults assist in my classroom.
Take responsibility for learning and SEEK to find answers -never give up!!!
SMILE ALOT- it's contagious and good for you.
Get a good night's sleep each night and eat a healthy breakfast, too!
HOMEWORK
Since homework is an extension of classroom learning, students will be expected to complete homework assignments on time and to the best of his or her ability.All work should be completed in pencil, black pen, or blue pen.On the day they return, it is the student’s responsibility to check with the teacher to get assignments if they have been absent.
SUPPLIES
Students should bring a pencil, black/blue pens, a red pen, highlighters, loose-leaf paper, and books as issued to class with you each day. They are ALWAYS required to bring their AR book- they never know when they might have some spare time!
EVALUATION & GRADES
Quizzes may be "pop" or announced. All tests are announced at least 2 DAYS in advance. Students should review all returned assignments, notes, and study guides prior to taking a test.A reading grade will include daily work, quizzes, projects, tests, and AR.AR will be 20% of the grade, which includes AR points earned each week and the % earned on each test taken.
It is expected that students will not gather their materials until they hear the bell ring.I expect that they use every minute of their work time. A good reminder is also to check their work area for any personal belongings or garbage. They are also expected to stay in their seats until the bell rings.Otherwise, they might miss something!
